Get Ready! Stay Ready!

This program teaches life skills to teenage boys of color .

Our goal is to prepare young Black men for life. Through a day-long program, we bring in experts from various job sectors and Black community leaders to present on a number of topics.

About the Program

Get Ready! Stay Ready! was launched in 2025. This program is inspired by the book 100 things a Black Boy Should Do and Know by Jason Huey. We bring in Black men from the community to share information and help our participants gain tangible skills. Topics include things like:

  • how to cut your own hair

  • making a meal

  • light car maintenance

  • hygiene skills and etiquette

  • fishing

Teenage boys of color often get overlooked for services and support. Our hope is to boost their confidence, help them form relationships with community members, and be better prepared for life. This program serves young Black men ages 12-17 years old.
